Careers
At Newman Sixth our dedicated Post-18 Careers Advisor runs innovative programmes to help the students look ahead and understand the breadth of opportunities available to them. These programmes are interwoven into our PSHE and pastoral curriculum that runs throughout Year 12 and 13. Our Alumnae love to ‘give back’ to our community, and many are actively involved in mentoring, coaching and acting as sounding boards for our students to support them with their post-18 journey. At Newman Sixth we are not only interested in where and what students go on to do when they leave us, but where they are in 20 and 30 years time.
We use the platform ‘Unifrog’ as an integral tool to ensuring that students have the knowledge and are prepared for their next steps. We also work with local stakeholders to offer work experience opportunities, mock interview practise, UCAS and Careers Fairs which are tailored to each year group.
We proudly work with the Connolly Foundation and the Chamber of Commerce who offer Post-18 and Engineering Bursaries to our students year on year throughout their time at University or in their Degree Apprenticeship.
Destinations
Testament to our fantastic Careers Programme, is that 77% of our 2023 leavers confirmed places at their first choice Universities, including Oxford, Imperial, University College London, Warwick and Loughborough, all of which are in the top 10 ranking of Universities in the country. Among these students, four also confirmed places on Degree Apprenticeships in Aerospace Engineering, Cybersecurity, Accounting and Electrical Engineering.
