News Statement

Statement from Cardinal Newman Catholic School following the perpetrator’s guilty plea in court:

“Firstly, it is important to acknowledge that Juliana, Kyle and Giselle are foremost in our thoughts. Kyle was a much-loved former student at the school, who was known for his kindness and for simply being “a brilliant friend” to so many of his fellow students.

“He was also a very talented footballer who brought joy to all who knew him.

“We were also hugely shocked to discover that the perpetrator intended to cause further harm in another Luton school following the incident.

“As educators and as part of the Luton community this news is incredibly difficult to hear and impossible to comprehend. Our thoughts and prayers are with those impacted.

“We also want to reassure our community that the safety, wellbeing and happiness of the students and staff at our school will always be our number one priority, and this will never be compromised.

“Security at the school is constantly reviewed and monitored, and that gives us the assurance that the measures we have in place are robust and effective.

“The school put in place extensive support for our community when this news first broke last September, and we will ensure the same level of support, in partnership with Luton Council, over the coming days and weeks.”
